The Ultimate Question
Despite what others may say, Jesus Christ made it clear that there’s no way to God but through him. This is what he said about himself: "I am the Way (to God), the Truth (about God), and the Life (of God), no one can come to God except by me" (John 14:6).
Quite a claim to make - that he is the only one to give the gift of eternal life - a place in heaven when we die (John 14:6).
Quite a boast too, but is it true?
Well, Jesus can only be mad to say that, or totally deceived - or it is true!
God himself said “turn to me and be saved all you people, for I am God and there is no other” (Isaiah 45:22).
Jesus' response to this is to claim himself to be the only Saviour, the only one who offers eternal life - life for ever.
What will happen when you die?
If you’re not a Christian and you’re reading this, then, whatever other questions or arguments you may have about the Christian faith, here is a question you need to answer: “If Jesus Christ is who he says he is, and is alive today, then, what will happen when I die?”
Putting it simply
During the course of our life on this earth we all experience a mixture of good and bad. Every living person experiences something of the goodness of God's heaven in their lives and something of the evil of hell in their lives.
Heaven is where God is and hell is where there is a total absence of the goodness and love of God.
The Bible makes it clear that the death of our physical body initiates 'sort out time'. Jesus referred to it as the separation of the sheep from the goats (see Matthew 25:31-46).
When we die, therefore, the Christian leaves hell behind for ever and the non-Christian leaves heaven behind for ever - an awful prospect for the non-Christian.
True or false?
If this is not true, then whatever you do, it doesn’t matter anyway.
But can you prove it’s not true?
And, what if it is true?
If it is true then surely you need to do something about it, and that post-haste!
The Bible says: This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the LORD your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the LORD is your life... (Deuteronomy 30:19:20).
